The "Fourth Trimester" Class Series
Four Saturdays - March 5, 12, 19, and 26, 2016

1 - 4 pm
$200 for all four classes, or $60 per class

The "Fourth Trimester" refers to the first three months after your baby is born, also called the postpartum period. It's a time of major transition and adjustment, full of joyful moments as well as challenges. Discover how to get the best start to life with your new baby, and avoid the common pitfalls that can occur if you fail to prepare! You can take each session individually, or sign up for all 4 and save $40. Registration fee allows for attendance of the pregnant person, plus one support person (partner, friend, doula, etc.)


Class 1 - Planning for Postpartum

  • Setting yourself up for success
  • Create your postpartum support system
  • What things do you really need to buy?
  • Maintaining your romantic bond as a couple after baby arrives
  • Parenting styles, co-parenting, and integrating baby into your family

Class 2 - Recovering from Childbirth

  • How to make the transition easier
  • Natural home remedies that support postpartum healing
  • Emotional self-care and preventing postpartum mood disorders
  • Healing from a vaginal birth and Cesarean
  • A gentle movement routine that will help you bounce back quicker

Class 3 - Caring for Baby

  • Basic newborn care: diapering, feeding, bathing, transporting
  • Normal newborn behavior, appearance, and growth patterns
  • How skin-to-skin time benefits the whole family
  • Babywearing 101 and safe sleep habits
  • Common newborn procedures

Class 4 - All About Breastfeeding

  • Getting the best start to breastfeeding
  • What does a good latch look like?
  • Avoiding nipple pain and other common breastfeeding problems
  • Identifying hunger cues, and how to know if baby is getting enough milk
  • Returning to work, pumping, hand expression, and storage of milk

Marcy Ganoe is a student midwife, birth and postpartum doula, certified lactation counselor, placenta encapsulator, prenatal yoga teacher, and independent childbirth educator. She has been studying midwifery since 2009, and began working directly with families as a birth doula in 2013.
